Higher education institutions have vital importance in society, whether through their educational function of qualifying the human cadres necessary for the knowledge age, or their research function of promoting intellectual production, scientific research and the generation of organized knowledge, or their function in serving the local community by making use of their knowledge, research and expertise. In order for higher education institutions to be able to perform and give in the desired manner, it is of utmost importance that they have university leaders with a high level of leadership ability who have the leadership skills that would take in the hands of universities and their human and material resources towards realizing the hopes held by society. On these vital institutions.
1-3 Research Questions: The research problem can be formulated in the form of a major question: “What is the reality of applying sustainable leadership practices as defined by Avery and Brigstner at Kuwait University from the faculty members’ point of view ”? A number of sub-questions emerge from this main question, as follows: 1- What sustainable leadership practices should be achieved at the university according to the sustainable leadership model defined by Avery and Brigstner? 2- To what extent are sustainable leadership practices applied from the viewpoint of the faculty at Kuwait University? 3- Do the opinions of the participants in the research differ on the extent to which sustainable leadership practices are applied according to the different research variables (gender, academic rank, and specialization)? 4- What is the proposed model for developing the leadership of Kuwaiti higher education institutions in light of sustainable leadership practices?
1-4 Research objectives:This research aims to present the concept of sustainable leadership as it is among the main pivotal concepts that help organizations to be sustainable in an environment of uncertainty. The research also aims to present and define sustainable leadership practices according to the Avery and Brigstner model. In addition, this research seeks to monitor the reality of applying sustainable leadership practices in the higher education sector by focusing on Kuwait University, from the viewpoint of the university's faculty, and this research aims to identify the extent of differing opinions of the participants in the research on the reality of applying the practices of Sustainable leadership varies according to their personal variables. Finally, it focuses on research on providing a proposed model for developing sustainable leadership practices in higher education institutions.
