The study aimed to measure the effect of using a learning strategy based on phonological awareness in developing the skill of reading and orthography in the English language for beginner in learning English language female students. To achieve this, the researcher used the experimental approach, in its semi-experimental design with two equal groups (experimental and control). The study sample consisted of sixty students, who were randomly selected into two groups, one experimental and the other a control one. The study was applied at Al-Bayan Institute. The researcher conducted a reading test and a spelling test, before and after, and the results of the study showed that there was a statistically significant difference at the level of significance (α ≤ 0.05) between the mean scores of students in the experimental and control groups in the post application of each of: the reading and spelling test, In favor of students in the experimental group.
