The study aimed to describe the expected role of Saudi universities in developing digital citizenship among their students in light of the requirements of the knowledge society. The study, through which the concept of the knowledge society was defined, its characteristics and requirements, the description of the concept of digital citizenship, its characteristics, and its basic elements, and the diagnosis of the repercussions of the knowledge society on digital citizenship in Saudi universities, and then determining the expected role of Saudi universities in the development of digital citizenship among their students in light of the requirements the knowledge society, Based on the foregoing, the study concluded that the knowledge society has basic requirements that are closely related to digital citizenship, the most important of which are: the necessity of adopting a renewed educational philosophy that is compatible with the knowledge society, establishing an authentic Islamic educational model, providing an enabling environment, spreading a culture of professional development, employing scientific research, and digital transformation. for community institutions in general and universities in particular, and to activate community participation, and that these requirements have repercussions on digital citizenship and then on the roles of Saudi universities in their development among their students, In light of this, the study identified the most important features and dimensions of the expected role of university policies and objectives, university leaders, faculty members, curricula and teaching methods, and student activities - as the most important elements of the Saudi university system - in developing digital citizenship and its dimensions for Saudi university students.
