In the age of technology with the spread of social media and the contribution of many people to the production of various knowledge, especially the younger generation, two important questions arise, to what extent can technology/digital learning (DL) help push learners towards independence? To what extent can approaches such as DL and autonomy be useful for learners to produce knowledge? Learners produce knowledge at the time/place that suits them, so why not allow them to produce knowledge under the guidance and supervision of the teacher and in the presence of clear guidelines?
This study examines how DL contributes to bringing the learner to higher levels of independence to produce knowledge in the classroom. This study adopted the content analysis approach, and a group of recent global, regional, and local studies were analyzed. The results indicated that independence contributes to raising the rates of knowledge production, especially when it is linked to technology/DL. However, there are many accompanying challenges and clear shortcomings in legislation and guidelines for adopting such educational approaches in (Kuwait). This study recommends conducting more procedural/empirical research to arrive at appropriate legislation and guidelines for the local environment, considering the views of teachers and learners.
