Royce's moral philosophy was addressed through religion. The existence of God and the Absolute was the basic axis contained in every philosophy, and the goal of all his moral topics. Therefore, Royce resorted to moral insight, that moral power or faculty that God gave to man to perceive mysterious or unknown truths. Of things, and thus Royce's idealism came to renew religion as well as to renew morals and achieve the greatest degree of harmony and unity between individuals and different moral goals. Doubt represents the first stage of moral insight that guides man to his duties, and also guides him to the universal, good will.
