This research paper delves into the concept of waqf as a deeply rooted social, economic, and religious phenomenon in Islamic history, aimed at achieving social solidarity and assisting the needy. Waqf has played a prominent role in relief work throughout the ages through waqf-based relief institutions that provide financial, food, and medical assistance to those affected by natural disasters, wars, and crises. Both governmental and non-governmental waqf institutions implement numerous relief programs, providing ample examples of the role of waqf institutions in relief work across various regions and countries. Therefore, strengthening the role of waqf institutions in relief work is crucial to aid the needy and the poor, extending beyond Muslims to encompass non-Muslims as well. Islam, as a religion of humanity, does not discriminate based on religion, race, color, or any form of prejudice or distinction. Evidently, waqf institutions face several challenges in relief work, including insufficient funding and the difficulty of reaching the needy in remote or disaster-stricken areas. These challenges may hinder the ability of waqf institutions to provide humanitarian aid, which constitutes a significant objective of Islamic law, particularly in relation to its fundamental principles and objectives, such as preserving religion and life.
