The study aimed to identify the level of strategic vigilance and organizational excellence in Saudi universities, and to examine the role of the dimensions of strategic vigilance in achieving organizational excellence in Saudi universities from the perspective of academic leaders in public and private Saudi universities. The study used the descriptive method and applied a questionnaire to a sample of 167 academic leaders in public Saudi universities. The study concluded with several findings, the most important of which were that the level of strategic vigilance and organizational excellence in public and private Saudi universities was high. The presence of statistically significant differences in both strategic vigilance and organizational excellence between public and private universities, in favor of private universities. There is a positive correlation between the dimensions of strategic vigilance and organizational excellence, with competitive vigilance contributing the most to achieving organizational excellence. There are no statistically significant differences related to the variable of years of experience in the levels of strategic vigilance and organizational excellence in Saudi universities. The study recommended emphasizing the achievement of competitive vigilance in Saudi universities, as it played the most effective role in achieving organizational excellence. It also suggested activating the strategies and mechanisms applied in private universities to achieve both strategic vigilance and organizational excellence in public universities to reach the highest levels of achievement in each.
