Allah, the Exalted, has blessed this Ummah by preserving His Book and the Sunnah of His Messenger, peace be upon him, and has made accessible to it knowledge and guidance that purifies its creed and rectifies its worship. He, the Almighty, has also favored this Ummah with esteemed scholars who inherited the legacy of their Prophet, peace be upon him, spread his Sharia, and revived what others neglected from his Sunnah. Among these distinguished scholars and rightly guided leaders are Ibn al-Qayyim and a group of prominent Hanbali scholars, such as Abdullah ibn Ahmad, Ibn Battah, Ibn Mandah, and others.
Thus, this research was dedicated to an important matter of creed, under the title: “The Concordance between Ibn al-Qayyim and the Verified Hanbali Scholars in Matters of Belief in the Last Day.” The study addresses three main topics, through which their agreement on affirming belief in the Last Day, what occurs in the Barzakh, the resurrection from the graves, judgment, Paradise, and Hell is presented. This aims to elucidate the sound creed conveyed by Ibn al-Qayyim and earlier Hanbali scholars regarding matters of resurrection, judgment, Paradise, and Hell.
Through the inductive and comparative methods, this research has arrived at significant findings, including: their consensus on affirming belief in resurrection after death, that Allah will return souls to their bodies on the Day of Judgment, as stated in Quranic texts and Prophetic traditions, and the belief in accountability on the Day of Judgment, where people will be resurrected barefoot and unclothed for judgment. Those who deny this are considered disbelievers, and Paradise and Hell are real, eternal creations, as affirmed by the extensive evidence from the Quran, Sunnah, and statements of the Salaf.
