The study aimed to identify the level of reading comprehension among secondary school students, the extent to which it is affected by the type of test questions, and the extent to which the curricula currently applied succeed in developing the reading comprehension skills necessary for the level of secondary school students according to some international levels of reading education. The study followed the descriptive approach, and a reading comprehension test was applied to a sample consisting of (173) From secondary school students, and the results of the study showed weakness in the levels of critical, appreciative and creative understanding among secondary school students, and the results also showed the shortcomings of Arabic language teaching curricula in secondary school in achieving the required effectiveness to develop reading comprehension skills, and in light of the results, the researcher recommended the need to pay attention to early diagnosis and treatment of weak reading comprehension skills among secondary school students, and balance when teaching reading comprehension skills and its levels, as well as balance between them in the academic content, and the need to develop reading activities in secondary school curricula to develop higher levels of reading comprehension among secondary school students.
