This study aims to explore the preferred volunteer programs among students at the Institute of Islamic and Arabic Sciences in Indonesia, identify the challenges that hinder student participation in volunteer work, and suggest ways to enhance their involvement in such activities. The study population comprised all students enrolled at the institute during the second semester of the academic year 1445 AH, totaling 1,926 students. A random sample of 742 students, representing 38% of the total study population, was selected for the study. The research adopted a descriptive survey approach, utilizing a questionnaire as the primary data collection tool. The findings of the study reveal several key insights. First, the most preferred volunteer programs among the students include teaching the Qur’an to others, participating in iftar (breaking fast) programs, cleaning and maintaining mosques, donating money to those in need within the community, and preparing and distributing food to the underprivileged. Second, the primary challenges that hinder student participation in volunteer work include scheduling conflicts between volunteer programs and academic timetables, limited free time available for students, the scarcity of volunteer programs and opportunities tailored for students, and the lack of sufficient publicity to promote volunteer activities and encourage community participation. To enhance student engagement in volunteer work, the study suggests several measures. These include increasing family awareness and encouragement of volunteerism from an early age, designing volunteer programs specifically suited for university students, intensifying awareness campaigns on the significance and benefits of volunteer work for both individuals and society, and providing adequate training to equip students with the necessary skills for diverse volunteer activities. Through these findings, the study highlights the importance of fostering a culture of volunteerism among students, addressing existing barriers, and implementing strategies that effectively encourage their active participation in community service.
