Abstract
This research aimed to explore the effectiveness of a proposed counseling program based on mindfulness in reducing burnout and enhancing occupational adjustment among secondary school teachers in Kuwait. A descriptive-analytic and correlational research methodology were used, along with a quasi-experimental design involving a pre-test and post-test for one group. The study was conducted on a sample of 32 secondary school teachers in Kuwait, selected randomly. Data were collected using the Maslach & Jackson Burnout Inventory and the occupational Adjustment Scale developed by Kareeri and Al-Shehri (2024). Data analysis was performed using paired t-tests, Cohen's d for effect size, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. A counseling program based on mindfulness strategies was designed and implemented on the sample. The results indicated significant statistical differences between the pre-test and post-test mean scores on the burnout scale, favoring the pre-test. Moreover, there were statistically significant differences in the pre-test and post-test mean scores on the occupational adjustment scale, favoring the post-test. A large effect size was found for the proposed counseling program in reducing burnout and improving professional adjustment. Furthermore, a significant negative correlation was observed between the teachers' post-test burnout scores and their post-test professional adjustment scores. In light of these findings, the researchers recommend training teachers both before and during service on mindfulness strategies as tools to manage psychological stress, reduce burnout, and improve professional adjustment.
