The current research aims to reveal the reasons for academic dropout among preparatory year students at King Abdulaziz University from the viewpoint of students and faculty members.
The descriptive analytical approach has been adopted, and the research reached the following findings: The agreement of the study sample members of preparatory year students at King Abdulaziz University regarding the economic reasons for academic dropout was at a degree of (Neutral) with an average of (3.20) and a standard deviation of (0.95), the agreement of the study sample of faculty members regarding the reasons for academic dropout among preparatory year students at King Abdulaziz University was at a degree of (Strong Agree), with an average of (4.28) and standard deviation of (0.74), and the most prominent solution proposed to reduce academic dropout among preparatory year students at King Abdulaziz University from the viewpoint of faculty members is to hold courses for faculty members to develop their teaching performance.
Recommendations of the Research: preparing guidance and awareness programs for students about the importance of studying in the preparatory year, and the extent of benefiting from it in the future, through bulletins, lectures, etc., the university should encourage new students to be active in curricular and extracurricular activities; Such as sports activities, scientific and recreational trips, to develop their talents and interests to reduce the reasons for their academic dropout, the necessity of developing curricula and diversifying the university professor’s teaching methods for leading to increase activation of the suspense and dialogue elements, and increasing students’ motivation to learn, that keeps them away from boredom and dropout.
Proposals of the Research: Conducting other studies on obstacles or problems of students in their first year at university (Preparatory Year), whether in theoretical or scientific specializations, conducting further studies on the phenomenon of dropout in other universities, and paying attention to researching other factors.
