The study aimed to identify the role of the public secondary school in Behera Governorate in developing environmental awareness among its students, in light of the requirements of sustainable development, from the point of view of teachers, by identifying the role of: the school administration, the teacher, the curriculum, and student activities in developing environmental awareness among students. And presenting a set of Suggestions to activate the school’s role in this field. To achieve these goals, the study relied on the descriptive approach, especially the survey method, and used questionnaire and interview tools that were applied to a sample of 378 male and female teachers in public secondary schools in Behera Governorate. The study reached a number of results, the most important of which are: The role of the school in developing students’ environmental awareness in light of development requirements. Sustainability was achieved at the level of the questionnaire as a whole and at the level of all the axes of the questionnaire. Although the sample members agreed on all the axes in their various expressions, they differed in terms of Ranking. The second axis on the role of the teacher in developing students’ environmental awareness came in first place, followed by the first axis on the role of the teacher. School administration ranked second, the third axis, related to the role of curriculum, came in third place, then the fourth axis, related to the role of student activities, ranked fourth. The results of the interview resulted in the school administration, the teacher, the curriculum, and student activities playing their role in developing students’ environmental awareness, and the efforts made by the Ministry of Education and its administrative organizations, such as the Directorate of Education and educational departments, Follow up on schools in this field.
