Obstacles Challenging Yemeni Universities to Attain Academic Accreditation from the Perspectives of Accreditation and Quality Experts

Abstract

This research aims to identify obstacles that hinder Yemeni universities in attaining Academic Accreditation from the prospective of quality and accreditation experts at various higher educational institutions. The researchers used the Delphi approach with (26) experts selected through snowball sampling who is working in Quality Assurance and Academic Accreditation system in public and private universities in Yemen. Two rounds were implemented in order to ensure reaching a high level of agreement on the obstacles facing Yemeni universities in obtaining academic accreditation. Main results showed that failure of scientific research and community service processes to play their role in achieving academic accreditation, lack of a specific research map for scientific research at different areas of specialization, poor research services are provided to researchers, high teaching loads in favor of scientific studies, securing sufficient funds is the main obstacle that hinders applying Academic Accreditation due to limited financial  resources of universities.
