Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds, and prayers and peace be upon the noblest of creation in place and the most eloquent of tongues, and upon his family and companions. And yet The book “Ayyar al-Sha’ar” by Ibn Tabataba is one of the most important criticism books that we have read from the fourth century AH. It contained a number of important critical issues that were raised on the literary scene at that time. In it, Ibn Tabataba tried to put a caliber of poetry by which he knows the good from the bad, so he began his book with the definition of poetry and talked about its tools and its manufacture, then moved to the issue of meanings and words, and stood at the ordeal faced by modern poets in his talk about the poetry of the born, and this led him to an explanation of the way of the Arabs In the analogy, and their moral ideals, and building praise and satire on them, then he reached the caliber of poetry, and put before the poet the most important rules that he should follow, represented by various similes, so that the poet knows the value on which the verses are built, and this called him to present types of poetry to the The basis of this value and exposed in its doubling to the traditions of the Arabs. He turns to an important critical issue, which is the issue of poetic thefts, then moves on to talk about disposal or the so-called good disposal, and does not forget to stress the necessity of matching the meanings of poetry to its premises, so he singles out a recent for it. That the book ends with the limits of rhymes. Based on these topics addressed by Ibn Tabataba, this study will attempt to discuss these critical topics, and to identify the features of Ibn Tabataba's critical discourse.
