"The Role of School in Reducing Violence Among Female High School Students: Teachers' Perspectives"

Abstract

This study aimed to reveal the role of the school in reducing violence among secondary school students from the point of view of female teachers. The descriptive analytical approach was used, to achieve the objectives of the study, a questionnaire consisting of (37) items, was designed and applied on a random sample of (248) female teachers working at Abha secondary schools, Aseer Region.
Among the results of this study: the most prevailing violence types among secondary female students were using inappropriate words with fellows, pushing each other by force, and telling jokes to their fellows to make fun on them. It was found that the school can reduce violence among secondary female students through spreading the culture of dialogue in the school community and publishing guidance boards that urge proper conduct and advising female students who commit violence. This study also found that reducing violence among secondary female students might be hindered according to the shortage of conducting activities that help them to grow properly in religion and mind, as well as parents rarely take part in school’s meetings.     
There were no statistically significant differences among the study sample along the four domains of the study according to the variables (qualifications or type of school). There were statistically significant differences among the study sample study according to the variable (years of experience) about the first domain (the most prevailing violence types among secondary female students), in favor for medium years of experience (5-10 years). There were no statistically significant differences among the study sample along the other three domains of the study according to the variable (years of experience).
