Maternal Burnout and Its Relationship with Quality of Life among Mothers of Orphans in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between maternal burnout and the quality of life among mothers of orphans in charitable orphanages. The study employed the descriptive correlational approach and used the following instruments: the Maslach Burnout Inventory, prepared by Bahalki (2022), and the Quality-of-Life Scale, prepared by El-Sayyed (2016). The results revealed that the level of maternal burnout among mothers of orphans in charitable orphanages, in general, was moderate. The overall quality of life level was also moderate. There was an inverse relationship, ranging from weak to moderate, between emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and the overall score of the burnout dimensions on one hand and the quality of life with its dimensions and overall score on the other hand. There was also a significant inverse relationship, ranging from weak to moderate, between the lack of personal accomplishment dimension in the burnout scale and the quality of life with its dimensions and overall score. There were no statistically significant differences in the level of maternal burnout attributed to the age variable. However, there was a significant difference in the level of time management attributed to the family size variable.
