Practicing Academic Freedoms among Faculty Members of the Faculty of Studies of Higher Educational Education at King Abdulaziz University In Jeddah

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to investigate the extent of academic freedoms among faculty members in graduate studies faculty at king Abdelziz university in Jeddah. The descriptive approach was adopted, as the questionnaire was used to collect data from faculty Members in Graduate Studies faculty at King Abdelziz University. The sample totaled (30) faculty members selected through random sampling with rate (33%) from the original population totaling (90) faculty members. Data was collected by using SPSS program. The extent of practicing Academic Freedoms among Faculty Members in Graduate Studies faculty at King Abdelziz University in Jeddah is high level with mean of (3.63) and standard deviation of (0.425), teaching freedom domain came first in high level with a mean of (3.93) followed by freedom of expression in high level with a mean of (3.71) and the third rank freedom of research and publication in high level with mean of (4.69), and the fourth and last place is freedom of participation in decision-making, in a Medium degree with   mean of (3.23). There are no significant statistical differences at the level of  (0.05 α) the exercise of academic freedom among faculty members in the College of graduate Studies at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah is attributed to: (gender, years of experience, the university from which a member graduated Faculty); The researcher also made number of recommendations, the most important of which are: Involving faculty members in academic decision-making processes by adopting votes on decisions and not being limited to senior leaders only, encouraging scientific research and including research work within the shares of faculty members
