Abstract

The current study aimed to identify the training needs of learning disabilities teachers in light of the professional licensing standards in Saudi Arabia. The study population consisted of all learning disabilities teachers in Riyadh, and the study sample amounted to 313 male and female teachers. To achieve the purpose of the study, the descriptive survey approach was used, and a questionnaire of 30 paragraphs distributed over two axes was developed, for which appropriate validity and reliability indications were derived. The study concluded that the degree of training needs for learning disabilities teachers from the professional licensing standards for the general special education in Riyadh was moderate, where the phrases most in need of training in the first place were (building an individual educational program based on the results of the diagnosis and characteristics of students). The results of the second axis also showed that the degree of training needs for learning disabilities teachers from the professional licensing standards for the learning disabilities were high, where the phrases most in need of training were (clarifying the criteria and standards for identifying students with learning disabilities). The study also showed statistically significant differences in the degree of training needs from the standards of learning difficulties specialization attributed to the gender variable in favor of males, while the results did not show statistically significant differences attributed to the gender variable in the degree of training needs from the standards of general special education. The study also showed statistically significant differences attributed to the educational qualification variable in favor of holders of a master's degree in the degree of training needs from the standards of general special education and the standards of learning disabilities.
